Rando de 奇萊東稜: 3ème jour, 磐石山 3106m (Taïwan)

6AM: tiens, les cerfs sont encore là.

Finies les grandes prairies de bambou.
On se faufile maintenant dans les forêts de hauts bambous le long de la crête.
Il y a pas mal de dénivelés et arbres morts, donc plutôt fatigant.

No more open spaces of bamboo meadows.
Now we have to move our ways in tall bamboo forest along the ridge.
Many ups and downs and dead trees on the way, so quite tiring.

9:30AM: le fameux passage de la falaise de 
鐵線斷崖.
Pas si dangeureux maintenant, grâce aux cordes et clous installés par le Parc de Taroko. Merci!

La route est longue. On se perd facilement dans les bambous.

The trail is long. Easy to get lost in the bamboos.

3:30PM: enfin, camp de ce soir.
Mais pas de repos encore. Il faut aller chercher l'eau.

But no rest yet, we have to get water.

L'eau ruisselle des parois rocheuses. Super propre et fraîche.
L'ennui: il faut descendre 150m en altitude sur un chemin très pentu. Aller-retour 40min!
L'eau est toujours un problème dans ces randos plus difficiles sans chalets.

Problem: we have to get down 150m on a very steep trail. 40min round trip!
Water is always a first order issue in these less traveled hikes without lodges.

Rando de 奇萊東稜: 2ème jour, Chilai sommet Nord (Taïwan)

Aujourd'hui, on va grimper le sommet Nord de Chilai 3607m et descendre jusqu'au camp de 磐石中峰.

Today, we climb the North peak of Chilai 3607m, then go down to the camp of 磐石中峰.

6:30AM: c'est parti.
On revient au croisement pour le sommet Nord cette fois.

Back to the crossroad, now going to the left towards North peak.

Le sommet Nord, c'est le sommet pointu au fond. Pas commode.

North peak is the sharp peak in the background. Not so welcoming.

Pas de prarie à la dernière partie, que des rochers à grimper.

No more meadow in the last part. Only steep rocks to climb.

8AM: ça y est. Au sommet Nord (3607m)!

Ensuite, on suit la route vers l'Est, qui est beaucoup moins pratiquée.

L'eau viendra d'une mare en descendant 10min vers le sud, trouvée grâce à nos guides Bunun.

Water will come from a pond, 10min down south, found by our Bunun guides.

Le soir, les cerfs nous rendent visite, attirés par le sel de notre urine.
Pas facile de faire pipi quand 10 paires d'yeux vous regardent et vous demandent de vous dépêcher!

At night, deers come visit us, searching for the salt in our urine.
Quite stressful to pee when 10 pairs of eyes are watching you and wishing you could hurry up!

Rando de 奇萊東稜: 1er jour, le chalet de Chilai (Taïwan)

On revient d'une rando de 6 jours, réputée (et confirmée) très difficile!
Départ de Chilai / HoHuan.

We have just done the 6 days hike of 奇萊東稜, a very tough hike.
Departure from Chilai / Hohuan.

7:30AM: départ de la rando.

On a fait ce trajet jusqu'au chalet de Chilai plusieur fois déjà. La dernière fois en 2014.

We have hiked this trail to Chilai cabin many times already. Last time being in 2014.

9AM: à la cabine dite de la mare noire (黑水塘山屋).

9AM: to the cabin of the Dark pond.

10:30AM: au chalet de 成功山屋. Des randonneurs choisissent de camper là.

1:30PM: au croisement. On prend la droite vers le chalet de Chilai.

1:30PM: at crossroad. We go right to the Chilai cabin.

Le chalet de Chilai. Tout petit. On campe en général aux alentours.

The Chilai cabin. Very small. We usually camp around.

Cela tombe bien, le chalet est inoccupé. C'est quand même moins froid que sous la tente.
On est déjà à 3400m après tout. Le soir, il fera 0 degré.

Good, the cabin is vacant.
Warmer here than in the tent.
We are at 3400m high after all.
Freezing at night.

Un coup d'oeil vers le sommet Nord qu'on va grimper demain.

On prendra l'eau de cette mare. Un peu jaunâtre mais acceptable.

Rando 新康下瓦拉米, 7ème et dernier jour: sortie par 玉里 (Taïwan)

5AM: on part tôt aujourd'hui.
13.6km à faire et 8-9 heures de voiture de Hualien à Hsinchu.

5AM: we start early.
13.6km to go to trailhead + 8-9hrs drive from Hualien back to Hsinchu.

Encore un panneau d'ours tout mignon.

La route est longue mais facile, prisée des randonneurs du dimanche.

The trail is long but easy, enjoyed by occasional hikers.

Rando 新康下瓦拉米, 6ème jour: 瓦拉米山屋 (Taïwan)

7AM: prête à partir.
Le Français Damien est déjà parti à 5heures vers le nord pour 大分.

7AM: ready to go.
The French guy Damien left already at 5AM heading north to 大分.

14.2km à faire aujourd'hui jusqu'au prochain chalet à 1060m.

14.2km to go today till next lodge at 1060m high.

7:30AM: un ancien poste de police de l'époque Jap.

7:30AM: a police outpost of the Japanese period.

Un pan de mur plutôt bien preservé.

A stone wall pretty well preserved.

Ici, c'est l'habitacle des ours Taïwanais, donc ils font office de mascotte très mignonne.

Here is the home of Taiwanese bears, so they are used as very cute mascots.

Un panneau nous prévient qu'on est en territoire d'ours mais les chances d'en rencontrer un sont minimes. Heureusement.

A sign reminds us we are in Bear land but there is almost no chance to meet one actually. Fortunately.

10AM: Un autre poste de police Jap, pas mal préservé.

Le pont a été détruit par des typhons.
Quelqu'un a bricolé une échelle bien pratique.

There used to be a bridge but destroyed by typhoons.
Somebody built a very useful makeshift ladder.

2PM: ça y est. On arrive au chalet.

2PM: here we come to Walami cabin, at 1060m.

Ce chalet est très fréquenté et sera plein ce soir. Très bruyant aussi...
Ce seront les premiers autres humains qu'on verra après une semaine là-haut!

This cabin is very popular and will be full tonight. Very noisy too...
At last, we are going to meet other humans after one week up there!
