Quartier de Hsinyi à Taipei (Taïwan)

 

Ces derniers temps, on est à Taipei, dans le quartier de Hsinyi (信義區).

Les maisons de devant ont plus de 40 ans et valent 7000 euros / m2. Un peu délirant mais c'est dû aux beaux quartiers de derrière.

These days, we are in Taipei, in the district of Hsinyi (信義區).

Houses on the foreground are more than 40 years old, yet they are worth 7000 euros / m2. A little crazy, but that is because of the hype neighborhoods of the background.

En effet, on traverse  une avenue et on passe des vieux immeubles, petits restos, marchés... aux gratte-ciels (ex: tour 101), sièges sociaux des grandes boîtes, grands magasins, immeubles de luxe... Sacré contraste!

Indeed, we just cross an avenue and pass from the old buildings with their small restaurants, food markets... to the skycrapers, (ex: 101 tower), company headquarters, department stores, luxurious buildings... What a contrast!

Voici un    immeuble très particulier, en forme de spirale, construit par  l'architecte Belge Vincent Callebault.

This is a very particular building, like a spiral, built by Belgian architect Vincent Callebault.

Le réservoir de PaoShan (寶山水庫) n'a plus d'eau! (Part II) (Taïwan)

 

La sècheresse à Taïwan devient très préoccupante!

C'est la première fois que je vois le fond de ce réservoir, à moins de 10% de sa capacité.

Le centre  (Miaoli, Taichung) sera rationné en eau dès le  6 Avril. Bientôt notre tour à Hsinchu?

Vivement qu'il pleuve!

The drought in Taiwan is becoming very critical.

It is the first time we can see the bottom of this reservoir, now at less than 10% of its capacity.

The central regions (Miaoli, Taichung) will be rationed starting 6th April. Maybe Hsinchu will be next.

Le Starbucks tout neuf à Huwei (虎尾, Taïwan)

Aujourd'hui, on est allés à Huwei, au centre-sud, la ville natale de Cliff.
C'est plutôt campagnard, alors quelle surprise d'y trouver un Starbucks tout neuf ouvert il y a juste 1 mois.

Today, we went to Huwei in the center-south of Taiwan, Cliff's native place.
It is quite countryside, so what a surprise to find a brand new Starbucks there, open just 1 month ago.

Ce Starbucks n'aurait rien d'extraordinaire s'il n'avait pas occupé les locaux abandonnés d'un ancien poste de police construit durant l'occupation Japonaise 70 ans avant.
Huwei a pas mal de bâtiments de style Japonais.

This Starbucks would be just another coffee shop except it is using the old walls of a police center built 70 years ago during the Japanese rule.
Huwei has some nice Japanese-style buildings.

Le sigle confirme qu'il s'agit bien d'un ancien poste de police.

The logo is confirmation that it is indeed an old police center.

Le 1er étage a aussi conservé le parquet et quelques meubles d'époque.
Il y règne une ambiance rétro charmante.
Très bonne idée de recycler ces lieux historiques.

Arc-en-ciel avant le typhon (Taïwan)

1er Janvier à Taipei (Taïwan)

Grands magasins de Hsinyi à Taipei (台北信義區, Taïwan)

Pour ce premier jour de 2010, on a été voir la famille de Cliff, puis se ballader au quartier Hsinyi dans le coin, qui regroupe le plus grand centre commercial de Taipei, plus la mairie, les centres d'expo, la fameuse tour 101 (jusqu'ici la plus haute du monde), et de nombreux immeubles de luxe. Bref, un quartier central avec beaucoup de monde, comme hier soir, 2.8 millions paraît-il, venus célébrer le passage à l'an 2010 avec stars préférées et feux d'artifice.
Mais je préfère de loin le Taïwan de la Nature et j'évite les grandes villes comme Taipei.

Today, the first day of 2010, we visited Cliff's family and the Hsinyi district, which regroups the biggest mall of Taipei, the city hall, the 101 tower (the highest in the world as of now), the big exposition halls, and many luxury condos. So, a very pivotal district, with many people at all times, like yesterday night, 2.8 millions celebrating the countdown to Year 2010 amid music and fireworks.
This is the burstling urban Taiwan, a shopper's paradise, but I much prefer the other Taiwan of the Nature.

Parma et Melor (Taïwan)

Viendra? Viendra pas? Gros suspense du week-end.

Finalement, Ouf! Parma (à gauche) bifurque et Melor (à droite) file vers le Japon. Cela dit, Parma a quand même bien arrosé Taïwan et encore coupé des routes ici et là... D'ailleurs, il pleut toujours.

Et tant qu'on y est, un petit séisme de niveau 6 à Hualien aussi ce week-end (pas de dégâts)...

Décidément...

Coming, not coming? Big question of past week-end. Thank God! Parma turned left and Melor heads right to Japan. Still, Parma did not forget to leave some damages here and there in Taiwan. As a matter of fact, it is still raining now.

And, on top of that, a level 6 earthquake yesterday, fortunately without damages.

Encore des typhons (Taïwan)!

Décidément, encore une alerte au typhon, deux en fait, Parma et Melor! Ils sont encore loin, et espérons qu'ils vont épargner Taïwan, mais leurs pluies vont bien gâcher le week-end, ce samedi étant la fête du mi-automne. Peut-être qu'on aura des vacances typhon le lundi!

Pour les zones du sud sinistrées par le typhon Morakot en Août, c'est la cata! Les routes sont à peine réparées et le cauchemar va recommencer...

En ce moment, la Terre se déchaîne: typhon Ketsana aux Philippines, séismes aux îles Samoa et Sumatra!

Another typhoon alert, two actually: Parma & Melor! They may spare Taiwan, but this week-end is going to be all wet anyway, spoiling the mid-autumn festival on Saturday.

For southern Taiwan, devastated by typhoon Morakot in August, another nightmare is coming!

Congé "typhon" demain!

Voilà, le typhon Morakot arrive sur Taïwan. Du coup, on a droit a un congé "typhon" demain! La télé vient d'annoncer la "bonne" nouvelle. Ça n'existe pas en France, ça.

Hsinchu, sur la côte Ouest, n'a pas trop à craindre des typhons qui arrivent par l'Est, comme celui-là. Ils se briseront sur la Chaîne Centrale, avec ses sommets de plus de 3000m. On aura juste des pluies torrentielles et des bons vents. Il est fortement déconseillé de sortir quand même, au risque de se prendre un panneau ou un arbre sur la tête.

Sur la côte Est et dans les zones montagneuses, les typhons par contre amèneront leur cortège d'innondations, éboulements de terrains, et quelques victimes malheureusement [Il a plu en 3 jours la quantité d'une anneé de pluies! Estimation de 500 morts au 15 Août. Une vraie tragédie! Personne ne s'y attendait.].

Ce typhon est presque "bienvenu" car les réservoirs manquent d'eau. Taïwan a beau avoir des précipitations parfois catastrophiques mais n'arrive qu'à en stocker une petite partie avant leur écoulement vers l'océan.


Typhoon Morakot is coming to Taiwan, so we have a "typhoon" vacation tomorrow! Just announced on TV. Typical Taiwan life in summer.
Hsinchu, on the West coast, is well protected from the typhoons coming from the East, like this one. They will lose their strength over the Central Mountains with its many peaks over 3000m. Still, there will be heavy rains and strong winds, but nothing to compare with the floods, landslides on the East coast.
Actually, this typhoon is a little welcome, as most dams are almost empty! Taiwan dams just can't keep enough water before they flow into the ocean.
[As of 15th August, death toll already exceeds 500. It rained in 3 days the entire amount of a year. Nobody expected such a tragedy!]
