Sainte Chapelle (聖禮拜堂, Paris)

Aujourd'hui, on a été visiter la Sainte Chapelle construite au 13ème siècle par Saint-Louis pour abriter des reliques sacrées.
La Vierge Marie nous accueille a l'entrée.

Today, we visited the Holy Chapel built in the 13th century by King Saint-Louis to house sacred relics. 
Virgin Mary greets us at the entry.

Voilà justement Saint-Louis dans la chapelle basse.

Quelles belles ogives et couleur bleue!

On monte à la chapelle haute.
Les vitraux surélevés tout de suite nous coupent le soufle!

We go to the upper chapel.
The heightened stained glasses instantly take our breath away!

A l'autre bout de la chapelle haute, se trouve la rosace de l'Apocalypse.

At the other end of the upper chapel, stands the Rose of Apocalypse.

Les magnifiques vitraux racontent la Bible de A a Z, paraît-il.
On n'y comprend pas grand chose mais qu'importe, la beauté de la lumière et des couleurs suffit!

The magnificient stained glasses are said to tell the Bible from A to Z.
Not easy to understand but never mind, the beauty of the light and colours is already such a feast to the eye!

Cerisiers du Japon à Paris! (France)

Les cerisiers du Japon sont en fleurs, pas au Japon, mais à Paris! Au Jardin des plantes plus précisément. Très belle journée printanière.

The Japanese cherry trees are blossoming, not in Japan however, but in Paris! At the Botanical Garden more precisely. Beautiful spring day.

Eglise catholique de ChingChuan (清泉天主堂, Taïwan)

Aujourd'hui, encore une journée humide et froide! On a alors été aux sources thermales du village Atayal ChingChuan et visité au passage sa petite église au milieu des brumes. L'extérieur n'a rien d'extraordinaire mais l'intérieur s'orne de vitraux et fresques murales pittoresques Atayal, dessinés par le prêtre Jésuite Américain qui vit là depuis 1976. Le temps de bien connaître la culture locale et de parler un Chinois excellent.

Today is another cold wet day, so we went to the hot springs of the Atayal (泰雅族) village of ChingChuan and visited its small Catholic church in the mist. The outside has nothing special but the inside has nice glass and mural Atayal drawings, created by the American Jesuit priest (丁松青神父) who lives there since 1976, as he told us. Long enough to become almost Atayal and to speak an excellent Chinese.

Kyrie Eleison du film les Choristes (垂憐經/放牛班的春天, 2004)

La télé Taïwanaise diffuse parfois (trop rarement) des films Français, comme "les Choristes" il y a quelques semaines. La bande sonore archi-connue est chantée par les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc.
Mon morceau préféré: In Memoriam (un kyrie eleison / Seigneur, prends pitié / 垂憐經). Ici, pour la scène du film.

The Taiwanese TV channel 公視 sometimes airs French films (not often), like the 2004 "Les Choristes" a few weeks ago. The very famous soundtrack is beautiful, sung by the choir of "Petits Chanteurs of Saint-Marc".
My favourite piece is In Memoriam, a kyrie eleison / Lord, have mercy / 垂憐經). Here is the scene in the film.

Repas du Nouvel An Chinois (Taïwan)

Cette année, on n'est pas rentrés en France pour le Nouvel An Chinois, donc on l'a passé à Taipei, avec le repas traditionnel avec la famille de Cliff. Beaucoup de plats typiquement Taïwanais, pour une bonne indigestion!

We did not go to France this year for Chinese New Year, so we spent it in Taipei, with Cliff's family. As you can see, so many Taiwanese dishes for the traditional New Year dinner, for a good indigestion!

Eglise catholique de Wulai (烏來法蒂瑪聖母天主堂, Taïwan)

Après les sources thermales, on a aperçu par hasard cette église catholique. Wulai a beaucoup d'aborigènes Atayal, Catholiques en grande partie.
Les églises Taïwanaises bien sûr n'ont pas le cachet historique des Françaises, vu que le catholicisme a seulement 150 ans ici, mais elles ont souvent des styles architecturaux spéciaux adaptés aux goûts locaux! L'extérieur coloré de celle-ci par exemple fait art moderne mais l'intérieur, avec ses lanternes, fait très Chinois traditionnel!
Surprenant.


After the hot springs, we spotted this colourful Catholic church. Wulai has many Atayal aborigines, many of them Catholic. 
Taiwanese churches of course do not have the historical prestige of French ones, considering that Catholicism here is only 150 years-old, but they often have special architectural styles adapted to local tastes. The exterior of this one for example looks modern art while its interior, with its hanging lanterns, looks very much traditional Chinese!
Surprising.

Sources thermales de Wulai (烏來, Taïwan)

Aujourd'hui, jour du Nouvel An Chinois, on a été aux sources thermales de Wulai, dans la banlieue de Taipei. Pas trop de monde le matin.
Un vrai plaisir populaire, ces sources thermales en hiver ici, au contraire de la France. Taïwan en a une centaine.
Le bain chaud, le bruit de la rivière, la verdure... Il ne manque que la bière!

Today is the Chinese New Year and we went to the hot springs of Wulai, in the outskirts of Taipei.
Not so many people in the morning.
Unlike France, hot springs is a popular leisure and simple pleasure here in winter. Taiwan has roughly 100 of them across the island.
The hot bath, the sound of the river, the green leaves, only missing is the beer!
