(Taïwan)

Ce week-end, on a été à

This week-end, we went to 合歡山天巒池.
The weather was beautiful and there was a bicycle race.
Very popular here.

Back to business!
1PM: at the trailhead.
We often hike this trail except this time, we are going to visit the mountain pond of 天巒池.

Unfortunately, the weather quickly turns foggy, as it often happens in the afternoon in the high mountains.

At 0.9K, we leave the main trail and descend towards the camping site of the "little river" (小溪營地), 2km farther.
The weather suddenly turned rainy!

Behind us, we can see the radar telecommunication panel which is on the trail to 合歡北峰.

3PM: on arrive au campement de (3200m), dans le brouillard total!

3PM: we reach the camp of 小溪營地 (3200m), in total fog!

It is going to be a humid and cold night. What a misery!

Heureusement, au lendemain matin, il fait beau!

Fortunately, the sun shows up again the next morning!

8:30AM: on quitte le camp.
Les prairies verdoyantes de bambous sont magnifiques.

8:30AM: we pack and leave the camp.
The green bamboo meadows are beautiful.

A last view of the camp site.
The mountain chain in the cloudy background is the famous Chilai peak (奇萊山).

Here, we can see the farming center of Fushou (福壽山農場) and the west ridge of Snow Mountain (雪山西陵).

After the meadows, we start a long descent edging ourselves between bamboos.
Sometimes, our big backpacks get stuck in the way.

10:50AM: on arrive à 天巒池, un grand étang vers 2900m d'altitude.
Rien de spécial en fait.

10:50AM: on reach 天巒池, a big pond at 2900m high.
Nothing special actually.

We also go to the summit nearby, 20min away.

We continue descending quickly, to avoid the afternoon rain.

1PM: we reach an apple farm and end of this hike.

But 2 more months to go before harvest.
Taiwan weather is tropical but they can still grow apples in the mountains.

Lumière matinale à 加里山 2220m (Taïwan)

On va souvent faire 加里山

We often go hike 加里山 2220m but we seldom see such a beautiful light like this morning 8AM!

7AM: point de départ de la route forestière abandonnée de 羅山林道南線, à 1000m d'altitude.

Last Sunday, we hiked the mountain of 霞山 2167m.
Few-traveled trail and known as very tiring!
7AM: starting point of the abandoned forestry road of 羅山林道南線, at 1000m high.

We will find landslides all long the trail today, due to the July typhoon Soulik.

The hike starts with 9km of forestry road, unfortunately no more accessible by cars.
It would have saved us 2.5 hrs of hike!

The trail at some places is blocked by big rocks rolling down from a river turned monster by typhoon Soulik.
Hard to imagine in view of the present water stream.

9:30AM: end of the forestry road and the hike turns into a very steep 3km non-stop climb in the forest.
1000m height to go.

Parfois, il faut presque grimper à 4 pattes.
La galère pour re-descendre après.

Sometimes, we almost need to crawl, which does not look good for the descent later.

11:30AM: lunch break at one of the few flatter places.

1:30PM: a hunting camp with a smart DIY water harvesting tank.
Probably built by the local arborigenes.

2PM: enfin au sommet!
Exténuant.
Et il faut encore re-descendre.

2PM: finally to the top!
Very tired.
And still the descent to go.

3PM: retour au croisement allant à
La brume commence à envahir la forêt.
Vaut mieux se dépêcher.

3PM: back to the crossroad to 油羅山.
Fog is coming.
Had better hurry.

4PM: back to the most dangerous part of the trail, all the more in descent.

Dangerous because the cliff is just aside!
Cool nerves needed.

Everyone passes the cliff safely.
We will end the hike at 7PM.
Not for beginners, that's for sure!

8AM: on commence la rando.

Today, we again go hike the Marian trail of Chiaoshi
8AM: at the trailhead.

Il fait très beau mais si chaud!

The weather is beautiful but so hot!

9AM: after 3.7km of a rather boring flat trail, we come to the true trailhead.

We cross the bridge "to heaven" (通天橋) and the true hike starts in the forest.
1.6km to go.

We come out of the forest near the summit and for once, we can see the plain of Ilan and the sea.
Usually, it is foggy.

10:15AM: at the top.
The statue of Virgin Mary welcomes visitors in front of the Marial lodge.

The Marial lodge.
Always clean, probably thanks to Catholic devouts' efforts.

Inside the lodge.
Brighter now because the glasses in the back have been changed to transparent ones.

Facing the lodge on a small hill is the way of the cross, with a statue of Jesus at the top.

Allez, on re-descend.

Let's go down now.

When we see the church, the hike is over!

Mimi a 17 ans

Bon, c'est fini, ces photos?
Je veux dormir, moi!

Are you done with the pictures?
I want to sleep now!

Rando 北二段: 5ème et dernier jour (Taïwan)

6:30AM: on range nos affaires et on rentre!

6:30AM: we pack and prepare to go home!

We go upstream till the forest.

9:30AM: we climb 600m height to come back to the 17.5K milestone of the first day.
The toughest is done.

11:30AM: we follow the 730 forestry trail till 11.7K, and the hike is all over!

Rando 北二段: 4ème jour (Taïwan)

5:30AM: on commence la rando.
Dure journée aussi aujourd'hui.

5:30AM: we start early.
A tough day today too.

Chapeau!

This poor very hungry and lost(?) dog is following us since the 1st day.
She will also hike with us, even cross the cliffs by herself. Awesome!

Wouah!

She now has happily found a new master, this porter of the Bunun tribe, who can carry 30-50kg! Wouah!

We climb down the cliffs of 鬼門關斷崖 = cliffs of the Ghost Gate over 300m.
Scary name but not so difficult actually.
Much tougher in bad weather however.

On descend toujours.

Keep descending.

Voilà, finie la 2ème partie.

Looking back: part 2 is done.

Last part and we are done with Ghost Gate!
Cliff is so relieved.

This last 10m high cliff looks quite impressive after all for a descent.

Last landslide to descend.
A walk in the park after Ghost Gate, the peak in the background.

8:30AM: on arrive à la bifurcation pour le sommet de 甘薯峰 3158m.

8:30AM: we come to the crossroad to the summit of 甘薯峰 3158m.

On y va!

Here we go!
The trail goes down then up like a V.

La chaîne sacrée

The holy ridgeline

La chaîne de

The mountain chain of 大小劍.

A break before the final effort to the summit.

Ho hisse!

Climbing climbing!

11AM: finally to the top.
My 66th summit of 3000m!
The guy with the paper sign gets his 100th summit here!

Retour à la bifurcation, déjeuner, puis on descend 1200m jusqu'à la rivière.
Dur dur pour les pieds!
5PM: on y arrive enfin!

Back to the crossroad, lunch, then go down 1200m to the river.
My feet hurt!
5PM: finally to the river.

Need to cross the river at 3 locations to reach the camping site.
Something I don't like at all. Chilly and slippery.

At the end, no choice than take off shoes.
Finally end of the hike for today.
