Mongolie 2ème jour: Mongol Nomadic Tourist Camp, Elsen tasarkhai (mini Gobi)

 

Aujourd'hui, on quitte UB pour les steppes. 220km jusqu'au mini Gobi.

La Mongolie est immense, le plus loin qu'on ira cette fois sera l'ancienne capitale Kharkhorin à 360km d'UB.

Today, we leave UB for the steppes. 220km to Mini Gobi.

Mongolia is huge. The farthest we will go this time will be the ancient capital city of Kharkhorin, 360km away from UB.

La steppe à perte de vue...  Les Mongoliens, nomades dans l'âme, aiment toujours habiter dans les yourtes. Ils ont le droit de les installer partout sans autorisation sur les terres du gouvernement.

Endless steppe... Mongolians, still nomadic in their blood, like living in gers. They can freely install them anywhere on gouvernment soil.

Les conserves de maquereaux à 3.5 euros! Pour les Mongoliens fortunés qui veulent goûter au poisson... Ils n'en mangent jamais.

1er stop: le camp touristique des Nomades Mongols, où un programme nous montre la vie en steppe. 

On va visiter la famille au loin.

Les hôtes viennent nous accueillir  à cheval, yak, ou chameau à 2 bosses.

The hosts come greet us on horse, yak, or camel.

Le chef de famille montre comment déménager en pleine steppe. Haha, les yaks et chameaux connaissent la routine par coeur.

The family chief shows how home moving is done in the steppe.  LOL, the yaks and camels know the routine all too well.

On essaie de nous montrer comment attraper un cheval au galop avec un lasso au bout d'une longue perche, mais c'est raté.

Le monsieur doit soupirer dans son coin. Ah, ces jeunes incapables...

They tried to show us how to catch a horse with a lasso at the end of a long rod, but it did not work out.

The family chief must be having a big sigh. What a useless youth...

Moutons dans l'enclos pendant la visite.  Normalement, ils se baladent librement dans la steppe.

Sheep in their enclosure during the visit.  Usually, they would wander freely in the steppe.

Patous Mongoliens mis à l'ecart le temps de la visite, pour éviter des incidents avec des touristes inconscients avides de selfies.

Sheepdogs put aside during the visit, to avoid incidents with careless tourists chasing for selfies.

Un chasseur à l'aigle Kazhak.  Les Mongol Kazakhs forment 4% de la population Mongolienne et habitent surtout l'ouest du pays. Normal, près du Kazhakstan.

Thé au lait salé et fromage sec servis dans la yourte Mongolienne.

Plus lait que thé, au contraire du thé au lait Tibétain.

Notre hôtesse a l'air très contente des petits cadeaux (biscuits, goûters, serviette...) Made in Taïwan que notre groupe de voyage lui a offerts, comme veut la coutume de la visite.

Les enfants seront ravis quand ils rentreront de l'école.

Our hostess seems very satisfied of the small gifts (biscuits, snacks, towel...) all Made in Taiwan our tour group brought her, as is the visit etiquette.

A midi, tiens, du mouton. On en mangera TOUS les jours!  C'est la viande la moins chère ici.

Et heureusement, aussi des végétaux exprès pour les touristes.

For lunch, lamb of course.

We will have it EVERY DAY. It is the cheapest meat here.

Fortunately, also some vegetables specially for us tourists.

La famille a joué quelques morceaux pour tout le monde. Pas mal du tout! Musique et chants avec une tonalité pastorale en phase avec la steppe. J'aurais dû filmer ça.

Visite très recommendée.  La famille vit vraiment en yourte et l'ambiance est libre et relax.

The family played some music pieces for visitors.  Very good actually! Music and songs with a pastoral tone very much in tune with the steppe. I should have filmed that.

Very recommended camp.  The family does live in ger and the visit is free and easy-going.

On reprend la route. Par endroits, la steppe est quand même utilisée pour l'agriculture intensive, comme ici, du canola?

On the road again.  The endless steppe sometimes leaves place to intensive farming, like here canola?

Partout, des moutons et vaches broutant librement. Leur propriétaire les ramène le soir à cheval ou en moto.

Il faut engraisser à max avant l'hiver où il peut faire -40C.

Sheeps and cows grazing freely everywhere. Their owner comes take them home in the evening on horse or motorcycle.

Get fat as much as possible before winter gets down to -40C.

Enfin, on arrive à Elsen tasarkhai, ou le mini désert du Gobi. Le vrai Gobi est bien plus grand et plus au sud.

Finally, we come to Elsen tasarkhai, or mini Gobi desert. The real one is much bigger and much further south.

Comme tout bon touriste, bien sûr la balade en chameau.

Like all true tourists, of course the camel ride.

Pas de super hautes dunes de sable mais des rochers et broussailles, et la steppe verte autour.

Sympa mais encore restés sur notre faim.

No super high sand dunes but rocks, bushes, and the green steppe around.

Nice but too short.

On va ensuite à l' hôtel.

Il a plu, on a un double arc-en-ciel!

It rained, triggering a double raindow!

On peut même le voir en entier.

We can even see the whole rainbow!

Le chat de l'hôtel, super sympa.

The resident cat, very friendly.

Sauf que l'instant d'après, il attrape une souris de désert et la mange toute entière sous nos yeux.

Pas vraiment le chat d'appartement.

Except when he catches a desert mouse and eats the whole thing in front of us.

L'hôtel est au beau milieu de la steppe. 

Les lapins sauvages viennent nous rendre visite aussi.

Mongolie 1er jour: Ulan Bator, Monastère de Gandan, Place Genghis Khan

 

On revient d'une semaine en Mongolie. 

2.8 fois la superficie de la France et 19 fois moins d'habitants.

Comparée à Taiwan, 43 fois sa superficie et 6.5 moins d'habitants.

3.6 millions d'habitants en tout, dont 50% vivant à Ulan Bator!

We have just come back from a trip in Mongolia.

3.6 millions people with 50% in Ulan Bator!

Le symbole de la Mongolie qu'on trouve partout et sur son drapeau: feu / soleil / lune / terre / ying yang.

Autre symbole de la Mongolie qu'on verra partout, comme ici devant l'hôtel: Genghis Khan, le guerrier fondateur du vaste empire Mongol au 12ème siècle.

Ulan Bator aujourd'hui est une ville jeune  en pleine expansion, comme ici vue de notre chambre d'hôtel.

On va au mémorial de Zaisan, construit en 1971 pour honorer les soldats Soviet morts à la 2ème guerre mondiale, et qui ont aidé à repousser les Japs.

La Mongolie et l'URSS sont moins amies de nos jours.

We visit the Zaisan Memorial built in 1971 to commemorate the Soviet troops killed during WW2, and helped stop the Japanese invasion.

Mongolia and the Soviet Union are not so friends nowadays.

Le monument n'est pas mal, sans plus.

The monument is nice but that's all.

Mais surtout, on a une belle vue de UB.

Ici, c'est la région Sud, celle des riches.

But from there, we can get a nice view of UB.

To the South are the wealthy quarters.

Les autres régions sont moins top à cause des centrales électriques à charbon. En hiver, c'est le smog total.

The other areas of UB are plagued by the coal power plants, with full smog in winter.

Et en banlieue, on trouve les quartiers des migrants, saisonniers ou pas, habitant des petites maisons ou des yourtes traditionnelles.

In the outskirts, are the quarters of the seasonal or not migrants living in small houses or in gers.

Après Zaisan, on va au monastère Tibétain Bouddhiste Gelug de Gandan, fondé en 1809, détruit par Staline dans les années 1930, et re-construit après.

After Zaisan, we visit the Tibetan Buddhist Gandan Monastery, founded in 1809, destroyed by Stalin in the 1930s, and re-built afterwards.

Cette poutre très vénérée est tout ce qui reste de la purge Staliniste.

Au passage, le monsieur avec son chapeau de cow-boy est notre guide Tuji, très Mongole, non?

This must-pray column is the only remain of the Stalin purge.

By the way, the guy with a cow-boy hat is our local guide Tuji, very Mongol, no?

Une statue de Bouddha de 25 mètres, re-faite en 1979. L'originale ayant été fondue par les Soviets...

Le Bouddhisme Tibétain est la première religion de la Mongolie.

Tibetan Buddhism is the major religion in Mongolia.

Ce monastère est très fréquenté.

This monastery is very popular.

Après, on va a la place Genghis Khan, une immence place à la Soviet, avec GK au milieu, flanqué de ses généraux et fils et petit-fils.

Then, we go to the Genghis Khan Plaza, huge as Soviet-style is, with a GK statue, surrounded by his generals, son and grandson.

Son petit-fils le plus connu, Kublai Khan, qui a conquis toute la Chine au 13ème siècle et fondé la dynastie Yuan (元), mais qui sera détrônée à son tour par la dynastie Ming (明) au 14ème siècle.

Et ainsi s'acheva l'empire Mongol.

His most known grandson, Kublai Khan, who conquered all of China in the 13th century and founded the Yuan dynasty, but only to be overthrown later in the 14th century by the Ming dynasty.
