Jordanie-Israël 1er jour: Madaba et Karak (Jordanie)

On revient d'une semaine en Jordanie-Israël.

We have just come back from a week-long trip in Jordan-Israel.

6AM: l'aéroport tout neuf de Amman, la capitale Jordanienne.
On va faire 235km aujourd'hui jusqu'à Petra au Sud.

6AM: the brand new airport of Amman, the capital of Jordan.
We are going to drive 235km today to Petra in the South.

7:30AM: on est à Madaba, visiter l'église grecque Orthodoxe de St George du 19ème siècle.

7:30AM: we head south to Madaba, to visit the 19th century greek Orthodox church of St George.

Cette église est surtout célèbre pour sa carte mosaïque du 6ème siècle.

This church is actually more famous for its 6th century mosaic map.

La carte représente la Palestine, de Jérusalem (#1) à Jericoh.

The map depicts Palestinia, from Jerusalem (#1) to Jericho.

9AM: on visite le Mont Nébo, où est soi-disant enterré Moïse.

9AM: we visit Mount Nebo, where Moses was supposedly buried.

Derrière, c'est la Terre promise de Canaan, avec la Mer Morte à gauche.
Plutôt aride!
Et le soleil est trompeur, il caille!

In the background is the promised land of Canaan, with the Dead Sea at the left.
Rather dry scenery!
And the sun is deceiving, it is actually very cold!

12PM: on arrive à Karak, voir les ruines de l'immense château des Croisés du 12ème siècle du film de Ridley Scott "Kingdom of Heaven".
Les gens y habitent toujours à l'intérieur des murailles: 50% Chrétiens, 50% Musulmans.

12PM: we arrive at Karak, to see the ruins of the huge 12th century Crusaders Castle, staged in the Ridley Scott film "Kingdom of Heaven".
People still live inside the walls of the castle: 50% Christian, 50% Muslim.

C'est vraiment des ruines, mais la vue panoramique est très belle.

Ruins indeed. Fortunately, the panorama is beautiful.

Il faut pas mal d'imagination pour se représenter le lieu comme dans le film!

Needs some serious imagination to represent the place like in the film!

Un occupant des lieux vient nous voir: un chat de gouttière.
On en voit pas mal en Jordanie et Israël.
La plupart d'entre eux sont en bonne santé et ne fuient pas les gens.

Many of them in Jordan and Israel.
They seem healthy and seek human contact.
