Jordanie-Israël 2ème jour: Petra (Jordanie)

7:30AM: on est à l'entrée du site archéologique de Petra, vieux de 2000 ans, construit par les Nabatéens, un royaume Arabe disparu depuis.

7:30AM: we are at the entrance of the 2000 year-old archaeological site of Petra, built by the ancient Nabataean Arab kingdom.

La visite commence par un sentier sinueux d'environ 1.5km à travers un petit canyon de grès.

The visit starts with a 1.5km long sinuous trail through a small sandstone gorge.

Ici, on voit les vestiges de rue pavée par les Romains.

Here are the remains of a Roman paved road.

La roche prend des couleurs rose-dorées sous le soleil matinal.
Magnifique.

The rock walls become golden rose in the early sunlight.
Beautiful.

Ah! 30min de marche et on aperçoit le monument principal dit du Trésor.
Les monuments du site sont surtout des tombes.

30min later, we spot the major attraction of the Treasury.
Monuments in Petra are mainly tombs.

Le fameux monument du Trésor, gravé dans la roche, du haut vers le bas.

Le site est très grand, et on voit des tombes partout plus ou moins grandes et élaborées.
Toujours gravées dans la roche.

The site is very big and we can see many tombs of different sizes and decorations.
All of them carved in the rock.

Les murs exhibent les strates colorées naturelles du grès.

The walls exhibit the naturally stratified colours of the sandstone.

Le site a aussi un amphithéâtre Grec.

The site also has a Greek theatre.

Ou un temple Romain, du moins, ce qu'il en reste.

Or a Roman temple, whatever remains of it.

Après le déjeuner, on prend un sentier pour aller au monument dit du Monastère.
Moins fréquenté par les touristes car il faut grimper un peu mais ce n'est pas difficile, et le paysage est magnifique.

After lunch, we hike to the monument of the Monastery.
It is less-traveled by tourists because needs a little climb but not so hard, and the scenery is beautiful.

On ne peut pas se tromper de route: elle est jonchée de petits stands marchands tenus par les Bédouins habitants du coin.

No chance to get lost: just follow the small shopping stands along the way, run by local Bedouins.

Des chats y vivent aussi, sans doute avec les Bédouins.

Cats also live there, probably with the Bedouins.

Quel paysage!

What a scenery!

35min plus tard, on arrive au Monastère, une sorte de temple.
Plus beau et impressionant que le Trésor, je trouve.

35min later, we reach the Monastery, a kind of temple.
More magnificient and impressive than the Treasury, in my opinion.

On peut continuer un peu plus loin vers des petits postes de repos.

We can continue a little further to small outposts.

On y trouve le chameau de service pour les touristes.

We can find the camel on duty for tourists.

Ou les troupeaux de chèvres élevées par les Bédouins, qui habitent toujours sur le site.
Visite très recommandée!

Or sheep herds, raised by Bedouins, who still live on the site.
