Cachemire-Ladakh: Gulmarg 2682m (Inde)

 

On quitte Srinagar pour Gulmarg, une station de ski en hiver à 49km ouest de Srinagar.

On va monter tout en haut à 3950m en télécabine.

We leave Srinagar up to Gulmarg 2682m, a ski station in winter, 49km west of Srinagar.

A gondola takes us to the summit at 3950m.

J'aurais bien aimé faire les pistes de rando en bas, mais bon, pas possible avec ce tour organisé.

I would love to hike the trails below, but it is not possible in this tour.

Les petites cabanes ne sont pas des refuges de montagne mais des habitations temporaires des populations nomades.

The cabins are not hiking shelters but the nomadic tribes' seasonal houses.

1er stop à 3050m: on se croirait dans les Alpes!

1st stop at 3050m: looks like a Swiss Alpine scenery!

Il ne manque que Heidi et ses chèvres!

Only missing is Heidi and her sheep (cartoon character, girl of the Alps)!

On a par contre pas mal de touristes Indiens, vendeurs de châles pashminas ou boissons chaudes, photographes pour touristes, promenades en poney, etc... Le cirque touristique, quoi.  

Instead, we have many Indian tourists, pashmina shawls or hot drinks sellers, photographers for tourists, pony rides, etc... The tourist circus basically.

Et les chiens errants. Ils sont partout. La plupart des gros chiens gentils à poils épais et ils ont l'air en bonne santé. Les gens les tolèrent et les nourrissent sans doute.

And stray dogs. They are everywhere. Most of them friendly big dogs with thick coat and seemingly healthy. People here probably tolerate and feed them.

On reprend la télécabine pour aller au sommet. Il neige!

We take the gondola again to the summit. It is snowing!

Beaucoup de monde aussi.

A lot of people too.

On est à 3950m quand même. Il caille.

We are at 3950m high. It is freezing.

Même au sommet, il y a des soldats. Une constante au Cachemire, encore plus au Ladakh, région proche de la Chine et du Pakistan.

Soldiers everywhere, even at the summit. This is common in Kashmir, even more in Ladakh, area bordering China and Pakistan.
