We go from Leh to the beautiful mountain lake of Pangong Tso at 4250m. It is a saltwater lake, salt coming from the nearby mountains over years.
The lake is 30% in India, the rest in Tibet.
The lake became super famous because of the Indian film of 2009, the 3 Idiots, and triggered the touristic boom of Ladakh.
Chapeau!
Coming through the ChangLa pass at 5360m!
The road winds through the snowy mountains.
Luckily, we have a seasoned driver.
We saw some people doing this road trip on motorcycle, despite the danger and the freezing cold. Kudos!
Our highest altitude at this date, as high as Everest Base Camp.
There is a military outpost there.
On the road again.
Another military base, many in Ladakh, because of border territory disputes.
With Dorje, our driver.
Pashmina goats.
Beautiful scenery all the way.
But so rugged and dry!
Farm yaks.
Finally to the lake of Pangong Tso at 4250m. As blue as expected.
Fans of the film surely recognize this place.
Still very beautiful.
The lake environment is protected, so there are only cabins like these instead of hotel.
The place is deep country. Tourists easily outnumber the locals.
Tonight, temperature drops to -15 degrees C.
We survive thanks to the oil stove (but only allowed to heat till 10PM due to anti-pollution regulation), hot water packs, and double thick wool blankets!
Still alive on the next morning.
Such a beautiful light in the early morning.
Quelle belle région!
Goodbye till next time!
Such a beautiful region!
