Laos 4ème jour: les chutes de Khone Phapheng

On prend le petit déjeuner sur une terrasse sous des arbres de jacquier, dans un cadre très relaxant.
Pas mal de touristes Thaïlandais.

We have breakfast on a terrace under jackfruit trees, in a very relaxing environment.
Many Thai tourists.

Le chat du coin veut son petit déjeuner aussi. Ils ont tous ici cette tête à la Siamoise: grandes oreilles et museau pointu.

A cat wants his breakfast too. Cats here all look Siamese: big ears and pointed snout.

Aujourd'hui, on fait 150km jusqu'à l'extrême sud du Laos pour voir les chutes de Khone Phapheng sur le Mékong. Magnifique!
Voiture avec chauffeur: 150USD la journée.


Today, we drive 150km to the extreme south of Laos to see the Khone Phapheng falls on the Mekong river.

Le Mékong continue sa route vers le Cambodge tout près.

Après, on va voir Si Phan Don en bateau, où le Mékong est parsemé de "4000 îles" (8 euros le bateau).


After that, we go see Si Phan Don on boat, where the Mekong river runs through "4000 islands" (8 euros the boat).

Le paysage est joli mais sans plus.


The scenery is nice but nothing extraordinary.

Le coin est pourtant très apprécié des backpackers, avec des guesthouses partout le long du fleuve.
Ici, des maisons flottantes.


The site is however much appreciated by backpackers, so there are guesthouses everywhere along the river.

Le principal loisir sur les îles est de ne rien faire justement.
On y a bu un excellent café Laotien traditionnel bien corsé. 0.5 euro.


The main hobby on the islands is to do nothing.
We had an excellent traditional thick Lao coffee there! 0.5 euro.

Laos 3ème jour: notre ancienne maison à Paksé

Le matin, on prend l'avion pour Paksé. 1h10min de vol.

In the morning, we fly to Pakse. 1hr 10min long.

Notre hôtel (40USD la nuit, choisi par Vichit, dixit Papa) est un ancien palais royal aux 1900 portes et fenêtres (je n'ai pas compté) converti au tourisme. Très spécial! La chambre donne sur une terrasse avec vue sur le fleuve Sedone.

Our hotel (40USD per night, chosen by Vichit, says Dad) is a former royal palace with 1900 doors and windows (I did not count) converted to tourism. Very special! Our room opens to a terrace with view upon the Sedone river.

J'aime beaucoup le devant de l'hôtel! On s'y endort très vite, bercé par la brise.

I like the front of the hotel very much! One falls asleep easily in the breeze.

L'après-midi, on va voir notre ancienne maison de Paksé, celle où habitait Mémé. Elle est plutôt délabrée maintenant.

In the afternoon, we go see our old Pakse house, where Grandma used to live. It is in poor shape now.

Un bel exemple de maison de style colonial Français aux couleurs pimpantes, comme Paksé les aime.
Celle-là est la Maison de l'association des Chinois.

This one is the Chinese society building.

On a aussi vu une église Catholique, construite par les Français certainement.
Comme à Taïwan, il y règne un calme rare, car peu frequenté.


We also find a Catholic church, built by the French certainly.
Like in Taiwan, there is a rare calm there, because of few people.

Après ça, on décide d'aller au bord du Mékong. En tuk tuk bien sûr!


After that, we decide to go see Mekong river. In a tuk tuk of course!

Le beau fleuve Mékong, avec les montagnes célèbres de Paksé au fond.

Et pour finir la soirée, repas Laotien au bord du Mékong: poisson et porc rôtis, salade, riz gluant, et Beer Lao bien sûr. 
Tout ça, pour 3 euros par personne.


And to end the evening, Laotian meal next to the Mekong river: roasted fish and pork, salad, sticky rice, and Beer lao of course.
Only 3 euros per person.

Laos 2ème jour: au bord du Mékong à Vientiane

Le matin, on a été à l'agence de voyage du coin acheter les billets d'avion des prochains jours.
Avec les discussions + l'efficacité Laotienne, cela aura pris 3 heures! Tout ça avec le sourire. On s'y fait maintenant au tempo local.
Rien de grave: comme ces pendules sur le mur qui n'ont pas l'air synchronisées.

In the morning, we go to the nearby travel agency buy flight tickets of the next days.
Discussions + Lao efficiency combined, the whole process took 3 hrs! Still with a smile. We get used to the local slow tempo now.
Not to worry: like these clocks on the wall which are not synchronized.

Papa veut aller visiter le marché traditionnel Talat Sao, mais découvre que c'est devenu Talat Sao Mall maintenant! Le tout nouveau bâtiment à toit vert. Dommage, un autre Mall sans charme.


Dad wants to visit the traditional market Talat Sao, but finds out that it has now become Talat Sao Mall! The brand new building with a green roof. Too bad, just another mall like others. 

On y a quand même bu un excellent expresso (1 euro).


We still had an excellent expresso (1 euro) there.

Après, on va aller se promener au bord du Mékong. On voit partout ces arbres aux jolies fleurs jaunes en grappes (cassia fistula / 阿勃勒).


We then go for a stroll along the Mekong river. We can see these trees with beautiful yellow flower grapes everywhere (cassia fistula / golden shower tree / 阿勃勒).

Il fait une de ces chaleurs! Les gens se cachent sous les arbres ou dans les mini-cabines sur pilotis.


It is so hot! People are cooling under the trees or in these mini-houses on stilts.

Il y a maintenant une promenade qui longe le Mékong, qui est très sec en cette saison. Les gens vont se balader sur son lit.
La Thaïlande est juste en face.


A promenade now borders the Mekong river, very small in this season. People can walk on the river bed.
Thailand is just in front of us.

Ce soir, on va manger Laotien au marché local.


Tonight, we eat Lao food in the local market.

Poulet rôti, salade de papaye, riz gluant, Beer Lao: délicieux, et seulement 5 euros par personne!


Roasted chicken, papaya salad, sticky rice, Beer Lao: delicious, for only 5 euros per person!

Laos 1er jour: notre ancienne maison à Vientiane

1er jour du voyage au Laos avec les parents: nous voici à l'aéroport de Bangkok, prêts à embarquer pour Vientiane, la capitale.

1st day of the trip to Laos with the parents: here we are at the airport of Bangkok, waiting to fly to Vientiane, the capital.

Notre hotel est très convenable, pour 30 USD la nuit.

Our hotel is very good enough, for 30 USD the night.

Voici la vue qu'on a de la chambre. Il fait très chaud l'après-midi, vers les 35 deg C!


This is the view we have from our room. It is very hot in the afternoon, around 35 deg C!

Après une bonne sieste, Papa fonce voir notre ancienne maison à Vientiane.
Il a l'air de savoir encore retrouver son chemin!


After a good nap, Papa swiftly goes see our old house in Vientiane.
He seems to still know how to find his way!

Notre vieille maison est celle avec l'enseigne Amanta Lao. Encore là après plus de 35 ans. 
Ah si, les souvenirs me reviennent maintenant! Mais ce n'est pas moi qui l'aurais reconnue toute seule.


Our old house now holds the sign Amanta Lao. Still here after more than 35 years. 
Yes, my memories are coming back now! But I would not be able to identify it by myself.

Forêt de cyprès géants de 鎮西堡 (Taïwan)

Aujourd'hui, on a été de nouveau à la forêt de cyprès géants millénaires de 鎮西堡.
3 heures de route de montagne!
9AM: on commence la rando.

Today, we went again to the forest of thousand years old giant cypresses of 鎮西堡.
A 3 hour-drive on mountain road!

9AM: we start the hike.

On arrive à un petit ruisseau, où on puise et portera l'eau pour cuisiner là-haut. 6 litres pour Cliff!
La rando commence à grimper à partir de l'escalier.


We come to a stream, where we draw water for the lunch up there. Cliff will carry 6 liters!
The hike starts to climb from the wooden stairs.

9:30AM: carrefour des zones A & B de la forêt de cyprès géants.
On part pour A. La route est plus longue, moins fréquentée.


9:30AM: crossroad of areas A & B of the cypress forest. 
We go to A. The trail is longer, less crowded.

10:30AM: premier cyprès géant de la rando.


10:30AM: first giant cypress of the hike.

11AM: 2ème cyprès.


11AM: 2nd one.

Celui-là est spécial: une partie a poussé au-dessus d'un rocher géant.


This one is special: a part of it grew on top of a giant rock.

Celui-là doit être le plus gros du coin.
Un bonheur de se promener dans la forêt au vert tendre du printemps!


This one must be the biggest of the area.
Such a pleasure to walk in the tender green forest of spring!

11:30AM: on a vu les plus beaux cyprès. On peut alors déjeuner et rentrer!

11:30AM: we have seen all the nicest cypresses. Time to have lunch and then go home!
