My nieces from France came to see us during CNY, so we took them to the Taroko Gorges in Hualien. To the Baiyang trail in particular (#10 on the map to the left).

We go to Hualien by the very scenic route 9.
Here, at the cliffs of 清水.
4 heures de route et on arrive enfin aux gorges, au début de la Route 8 transversale Est-Ouest.
4 hrs of driving and we finally come to the gorges, at the beginning of the East-West transveral Route 8.
The route follows the gorges with scenic views all along.

Notre dernière visite était en 2014.
Le sentier fait 2.1km l'aller sans pente. Facile.
Cela commence par un long tunnel. Vaut mieux avoir une lampe mais on y arrive sans aussi.
On suit une rivière.
On arrive au bout du sentier. Las cascade n'est pas très grande en hiver.
Le clou du sentier de Baiyang est en fait la cave du rideau d'eau 水簾洞. L'eau glaciale ruisselle de partout et c'est le noir! Faut venir équipés pour en profiter.

The trail is easy, 2.1km long and flat.
The trail starts with a long tunnel in the dark. A lamp would be useful but not a must.
We follow a stream.
Difficile d'imaginer pourtant qu'un super typhon a fait monter la rivière jusqu'au pont et l'a endommagé!
We come to the end of the trail. The waterfall is rather small in winter.
Hard to believe then that a super typhoon raised the river level to the bridge, causing much damage!
The top attraction of the Baiyang trail is actually the cave of rainfall. The very cold water falls from everywhere and it is dark! Must come fully equipped to have fun.
The nieces are happy to play along.
