Rando du village de Smangus 司馬庫斯 au lac 焉鴦湖 (1600m, Taïwan)

Ce week-end, on a été faire une rando partant du village Atayal de Smangus 司馬庫斯. Le village a seulement 200 habitants, et est connu pour être le dernier endroit à Taïwan à avoir l'électricité. Imaginez le coin perdu dans les montagnes!

This week-end, we did a hike starting from the Atayal village of Smangus. The village has only 200 people, and is known for being the last place in Taiwan to get electricity. This gives an idea of how isolated it is in the mountains!

Smangus est connu pour ses cyprès rouges millénaires, comme l'indique la pancarte au commencement de la rando. Il y en a très peu maintenant, beaucoup étant emmenés par les Japs durant leur occupation.

Smangus is famous for its thousand years-old red cedars, as indicated on the sign at the beginning of the hike. There are few of them now, many having been taken by the Japanese during the occupation.

Voilà un bel spécimen, dans les 2500 ans.

En sortant de la forêt des arbres géants, on va aller au lac tout en longueur de 焉鴦湖 tout au loin.

After leaving the forest of giant trees, we go to the stripe-shaped lake of 焉鴦湖 in the distance.

On entre alors dans la forêt de lichen, encore bien originelle. Cette piste est très peu fréquentée. Il faut improviser les passages, se faufiler comme on peut entre les arbres.

We then enter the lichen forest 松羅林, still very original. This is a much less-traveled trail. Need to squeeze out ways between the trees.

Finalement, on arrive au lac. Il paraît que ces roseaux sont une espèce très rare mais bon, rien d'extraordinaire.

Finally, we reach the lake. These reeds are said to be a rare species, but not too exciting for me.
