Rhododendrons de la montagne HeHuan 合歡北峰

It is the floral season of the rhododendrons and Mount Hehuan, North peak 3422m in particular, is a nice place to appreciate them.
5AM: we leave home.
9AM: we start the 2km hike. Not a difficult one.

Le premier km est assez raide.

The first km is quite steep.

Then, the hike gets easier, after reaching the bamboo grasslands (Yushan cane

Même un petit chien Pékinois y arrive, alors...

Even a little Pekingese dog can do it, so...

Les premiers rhododendrons commencent à apparaître.
Ici, un très beau spécimen (玉山杜鵑)!

We can see the first rhododendron tree.
Here is a very nice specimen

Celui-là a des fleurs blanches.

This one has white flowers.

Les fleurs de celui-là sont rose pâles.

This one has pale rose flowers.

Mountain rhododendrons mainly grow on the flanks.
The biggest group I have ever seen can be found at the Mountain 3500m, but needs 3 days to get there. Not for everyone.

11AM: This mountain is much easier to climb. The summit looks like a noisy marketplace!

12PM: on re-descend.

12PM: we go down.
Soon, there are more people than the rhododendron trees!
I am glad we started the hike early, so avoided the crowd.

We can see the road and our car.
End of today hike!

  1. I went to North peak last week, the weather was not very fine though, the rhododendron tree (紅毛杜鵑) blossom was very splendid!
PS. I persuaded my wife to hike this time by showing your article and told her: See! Even a little Pekingese dog can do it! Don't sell yourself short! ^^
